The nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind.

Magic Number is 7

With two weeks to play the Cubs magic number to clinch the division is 7 after Big Z pitched the first no-no from a Cub since 1972 Sunday against the Astros…in MILWAUKEE (how ironic).  The Brew Crew is in meltdown.  Today Yost got yanked even though the Brewers are still tied for the wildcard spot.  The Astros are charging hard for the wildcard spot, but are displaced from their home field for a set with the Cubbies.  With so many Cubs fans able to make it to Milwaukee, that’s almost like giving up those home games (even though they’ll play as the home team).  The third game of that set is postponed until 9/29 and will only be played if necessary.

I don’t think it will be necessary for the Cubs by then, but it could be for the Astros.  If so, it would work in the Astros favor because the Cubs would surely rest everybody in such a game.

Shallowater Stampede

Lisa and I volunteered some time Saturday morning for the Shallowater Stampede.  The senior parents were pitching in to man some of the locations in the run in return for some fundraising for Project Graduation.

I really didn’t think I would enjoy it having to be down there so early in the morning, but I did enjoy it a lot.  Lisa and I manned the drink station at 2.5K and 7.5K of the 10K run (it was run down a road and back).  I was impressed by the people running that, I sure could not do it.  Mr. Elston, Mr. Defever and Mr. Walker were three of the men I recognized.  I admire them for running that.

It was a very foggy morning which made the experience kind of eerie as Lisa and I waited out in the country in the midst of that fog for the first runners to come by.  Fighting the mosquitoes was the worst part!  The little lesson by Mr. Bird in how to hand out the water came in handy, too, as handing a cup of water to a person running by is not something I do just every day.  :)

But it all went smoothly and I went home about 9:30 glad I’d gone down and helped.  Sure showed me I need to get off my duff and do something.  I’m in terrible shape compared to these guys!
