Shallowater Stampede
Lisa and I volunteered some time Saturday morning for the Shallowater Stampede. The senior parents were pitching in to man some of the locations in the run in return for some fundraising for Project Graduation.
I really didn’t think I would enjoy it having to be down there so early in the morning, but I did enjoy it a lot. Lisa and I manned the drink station at 2.5K and 7.5K of the 10K run (it was run down a road and back). I was impressed by the people running that, I sure could not do it. Mr. Elston, Mr. Defever and Mr. Walker were three of the men I recognized. I admire them for running that.
It was a very foggy morning which made the experience kind of eerie as Lisa and I waited out in the country in the midst of that fog for the first runners to come by. Fighting the mosquitoes was the worst part! The little lesson by Mr. Bird in how to hand out the water came in handy, too, as handing a cup of water to a person running by is not something I do just every day.
But it all went smoothly and I went home about 9:30 glad I’d gone down and helped. Sure showed me I need to get off my duff and do something. I’m in terrible shape compared to these guys!
