McAllister Park in Little League US Championship
It’s way cool a Texas team is in the US championship again. McAllister is one of the leagues Lubbock Western had to get past in their jaunt to the US Championship game two years ago.
It’s doubly cool that the manager of the team, Mike Shull, is a former Texas Tech pitcher from the early 80s. I didn’t know that until Orel Hershiser mentioned it the other day as Texas won against Chula Vista, CA.
Hershiser is pretty cool covering these games. He’s got the perfect combination of passion for the game and ability to communicate teaching points accurately in a limited amount of time. His insights and tips during this coverage are spot on in my opinion. Orestes has the passion, too, but does not give the really meaty insights into the plays and pitches that Hershiser does. I’ll admit that during this year and last year I’ve learned at least a couple of things from Hershiser within a one minute discussion with a baseball in his hand that professional coaches have not been able to communicate to me in hours and hours of trying. Some people got it, some people don’t.
It’s no wonder Hershiser is a major league level pitching coach talent.
And by the way, GO TEXAS!
